Welcome to S. Michael’s, Camden Town, one of George Frederick Bodley’s finest churches and his first London commission. Of the three Bodley churches in the Diocese, S. Michael’s architecture shows Bodley at his most powerful, despite not having been completed according to the original designs. It stands testament to the ideals of its first priest, Father Edward Bainbridge Penfold, who desired that the working class citizens of Camden Town be able to worship God in an uplifting setting, in the ‘beauty of holiness’.
This vision we continue today where, through music, preaching and drawing upon the riches of the catholic tradition, we proclaim afresh the love of God manifest in the person of Jesus Christ.
